Horizon Health offers post-operative DVT care and post-operative therapy to patients recovering from surgery.


  1.  Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) occurs when a blood clot (thrombus) forms in one or more of the deep veins in the body, usually in the legs. Deep vein thrombosis can cause leg pain or swelling.  Deep vein thrombosis can be serious because blood clots in the veins can break loose. The clots can then travel through the bloodstream and get stuck in the lungs, blocking blood flow (pulmonary embolism). When DVT and pulmonary embolism occur together, it's called venous thromboembolism (VTE). 
  2. Your physician prescribed you with a take home DVT device as a continuum of care in order to aid in the prevention of a DVT forming after your surgery.


The highest risk for developing a DVT is the first 30 days after surgery. We recommend using the device whenever you are sedentary for a long period of time. Every patient has different risk factors. Please consult your physician for indications of use.
